The population of the blue whale is 10,000 25,000. The life span is 80 - 90 years in the wlid. Their weight can go all the way up to 50,000 – 150,000 kg. The name that they originally had was the Balaenoptera musculus. The length for females are 25 m and the length for males is 24 m.
They were in the news because they have just finished a 3 year wild water whale project. When they did this they spotted 55 of the critically endangered whales off the island of south Georgia in the South Atlantic. This means their population is growing so that is very good because it would be sad if we lost another creature to extinction.
How do you feel about the blue whales population growing?
Hey Shilah, I like your good news story about the blue whales! I agree with you that this is good because it is always so sad reading about animals becoming endangered. We need more positive news stories. I wonder if blue whales come to New Zealand? I would love to see one. How about you?

Kia ora Shilah, You presented this news in a tidy format and the photo adds interest. I was pleased to read about the growing numbers of the Blue Whale. I think most of us appreciate the wonders of whales and wish to see them protected.
